Can someone please help me (im 14 and losing hair)?

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS IF YOU'RE GOING TO ANSWER, SORRY IT'S LONG.

im serious, im losing like a LOT of hair. i went to the doctor (cosmetologist, or whatever it's called) and as soon as i told her that i'm losing hair she kinda laughed and i could tell she wasn't taking me seriously. she just told me it's stress (after looking at my hair). she said it would stop in a month or so.

it's been like more than 6 months since i first started losing hair. i don't look like im losing hair. i don't have any bald patches or any area of my head that is thinning more than the others. every time im brushing a lot of hair is in it, and in the shower even more falls out. i used to have a lot more hair, though i still have a natural amount. every time i reach and gently grab the bottom of my hair and pull out the hair that fell out already, i get a pretty thick strand. it's REALLY scaring me!

please help, thanks for your patience!

Get a second opinion if you're worried. Also remember that most people lose something like 100 hairs a day anyway.

Do you wear your hair up a lot? Because if so, your hair will naturally shed, but since it's all tied up, by the time you run your hands through your hair or shower, it's all in clump and appears that you've lost more hair than normal. Understand? Report It

Hormones, stress, and environment are all causing you to lose hair. Don't wash your hair everyday or blow dry it or curl it. Leave it be. If you have alot of stress going on in your life see about removing the stressors. Your hair will grow back. If you are really upset about it see your physician. He or she may be able to recommend other options for you.

if you already went to the doctor then you, should have listened to what they told you! the average human loses about 200 hairs a day! that's a lot! but it's always being replaced so you shouldn't be too worried.

You can take folic acid, which promotes healthy hair and nail growth. Also, eat a more balanced diet and try to avoid stress. Stress on your hair - such as curling and blow drying also is good to avoid.

I used to have really thick hair when I was younger, and then around 16 or 17 it relaly thinned out. I thought i was gonna go bald too, but I didn't and now I'm fine. I think you will be too! :)

You need to go to your regular physician and a dermatologist ASAP. Stress can cause physical harm but this sounds much more drastic. The cosmologist was very unprofessional and I really recommend not going to her again. I hope you find out what's going on and can find a remedy.

Normally, you should lose 50-100 hairs per day, but it sounds like you're losing a lot more. The best advice is to see another doctor because that one just isn't working. It is less common for teens to have such problems, but here are some causes:

Endocrine (hormonal) conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes or thyroid disease, can interfere with hair production and cause hair loss. People with kidney and liver diseases and lupus can also lose hair. The hormone imbalance that occurs in polycystic ovary syndrome can cause hair loss in teen girls as well as adult women. Also, an skin autoimmune disorder called Alopecia areata causes hair loss on the head as well as other places on the body

Have you changed your diet recently. You should ask your mom or see your doctor if it's really serious.

Go back and see the same doctor. If she sees you've come back twice, she'll take you more seriously. If you go to a new one they'll just do the same.

go to a DERMATOLOGIST, he/she is an especialist not only of the skin but hair too... meanwhile change the shampoo you're using to a mild one like johnson's baby shampoo.!!!

We naturally lose hair, many hairs, every day. Are you taking any sort of drugs or medications? Some of those can cause hair loss.

I'd try changing shampoo and conditioner, and buy yourself a new hairbrush. Try a brush with wide apart plastic doodads (whatever do you call the part of the brush with all the bristles nowadays, but that are made of plastic?) Do not brush your hair and force the brush through, that tears out hairs. Instead, after washing and conditioning your hair, use a very wide pick type comb, then use a slightly finer comb, then use your brush. By untangling hair with a wide comb, first, you won't yank so much out.

The human head typically loses 100 hairs each day. When you have long hair, that is more noticable than when hair is short. You can read up on hair loss here: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20030701/93.html

you may want to go to the doctors again and make sure you dont have cancer, be wise and get that check. and it could be your dying your hair to much that does it.

Tell your parents right away to take you to another doctor! Losing hair is not just normal to stress. And I know how scary it is ! Good luck, sweetie!

When my son was 14, he ended up with bald spots on his head. The doctor sent him to a specialist to see if his thyroid gland was working properly.

It was, so we were at a loss for a while. I started him on vitamins, and bought a special kind of shampoo from a beauty shop for his hair.

Are you taking zinc pills? I took them once because I lost my sense of smell, and it seemed like my hair was falling out more then normal.

When your body is under a lot of stress, the hair suffers. It takes a lot of protein to produce hair, and if you are going through a growth spurt, this could explain it.

I found out that my son was nervous being home for the first time while his brother got his first job, and he was left alone. He said later that he was twisting at his hair.

Ok, try eating more protein, take vitamins, and remember that most hair loss on a young person rarely last. Don't color you hair, and use mild shampoo. Have your hair trimmed a little shorter, and give your body some time to recover.
