I have a Himalayan kitten whom is now 14 weeks old, I bathe her every few weeks and I brush and comb her every day, but she is still getting knots and matted hair around her neck and ears. Is there a way to prevent this, seems to be painfull for her when I am removing the knots.

You can easily remove any new knots with a fine-toothed steel comb (also known as a greyhound comb), sold at petstores in the grooming section. Hold kittens skin taught and get the comb down to the skin and pull. Unless it is seriously matted in there it will pop right out. She may object to this at first, but it really doesnt hurt, and shes a Himi, shes gotta get used to it now, otherwise it usually isnt an option when they get older. Also, if you bathe her with any knots, by getting them wet and then drying them, you will make them 10 times worse, she will get so bad your only option will be to shave her, you should be able to run the fine end of the comb through her entire body prebathing. Be sure to get her belly and armpits too. Remnember, people bred this breed of cat, with all their beautiful fur; its up to us to help them maintain it.
