My daughter is mixed but has very frizzy very curly hair so tight with curls you can't brush it when its dry...it seems to be getting more course as she gets older. At my school their is a nontraditional relaxer without harsh chemicals and lye...should i have my daughters hair straightened?

I wouldn't straighten her hair. I think she is too young, and you should wait until she is about 7 for the kids straightening. I have to do my niece hair everyday and I know what you mean! I usually put it back into a ponytail or in braids. But I would wait on getting it straightened.

If she's only 3, I would say no. There are other ways of controlling frizzy hair so I would check into that. I think there's a product called Anti-Frizz or something like that...you can find it at any drug store.

I am caucasian. I would NEVER do such a thing to a child. You will be teaching your child by your example that she is not "good enough".

But if you insist, then get a doctor's OK first. Her hair and her scalp could be damaged at that tender young age.

No~you can try flat irons to straighten her hair. Perms are absolutely too harsh for her and she is too young. You can also get a good conditioner and even pressing her hair may work. Pantene has a good line of products that work for my daughters hair. There are also Egyptian hair salons that straighten hair and it lasts for a few months~they dont use chemicals they use really hot flat irons.

Try a little TRICK...moisten your palms with 4-5 drops of olive oil and then gently pass your palms and fingers through her hair.

This question is interesting on a couple of levels. First your daughters hair is too "new" to be doing anything to it. If you have a hard time brushing/combing it, try to use a little creme rinse after shapooing and it will help to smooth the hairs and make it easier to get a comb/brush through.

The other issue here is more important. You need to teach your daughter to be proud of her heritage. Changing something as significant as her hair could potentially have an effect on her pride and self confidence. Let her know she is beautiful the way God made her. She can always make the decision later on down the road if she wants to change. Good luck, you sound like a thoughtful, caring mother.

I would say no. Even though the relaxer at school doesn't contain "harsh" chemicals, any chemical on a 3 year old would be dangerous. There are so many great products on the market now I would go that route.

I wouldn't do that. Hair on younger children is different compared to when they hit puberty. It's fragile now. I permed my daughter's hair when she was 10 and it turned into a frizzed disaster, bc I didn't know any better and the stylist never warned me. My daughter looked ridiculous for about a year til it calmed down and she had enough trims.

I just emailed you about a Pantene anti-frizz serum that's great, I use it on my daughter and most days she wears an elastic headband and we leave it all curly.

Don't try to comb it dry, ever.
